We are a UK based Registered charity; Registered in 1986 number 295630. We are a Company Limited by Guarantee (No. 2055369) and are fully compliant with the requirements of the Charities Commission.
Our objective is to provide education of Hindu values, culture and religion, and provide facilities in the interest of recreation and social welfare. This is without distinction of sex, religion, race, political or other opinions. The aim is to promote understanding and goodwill between all people irrespective of racial, religious or ethnic consideration.
Our operational organisation is Lohana Community South London (LCSL) which was formed as a not-for-profit community organisation in 1974, and our aim is to help our member families and our elderly specifically. We have some 400 families as members in Croydon and the surrounding areas. See our website at www.LCSL.org.uk for more details.
We have had our own Community Centre since September 2014 in East Croydon on Church Road, corner of Lower Coombe Street, Croydon, CR0 1SH from where we host all our key activities. We celebrate all the main Hindu cultural, religious and social events and host special events for the Hindu Community in Croydon and surrounding areas.
We have opened a small Hindu Mandir in March 2022 in our Main Hall in the Community Centre where we host various monthly bhajans and religious events.
We provide a full Bereavement facility for all Hindus, with funeral directors and priests as required at fixed cost, and we host bereavement prayers and khichadi lunch at our hall for no fixed price. Donations are gratefully accepted for these services.
We have had an Elders Vadil Club operating in our Centre for the last 9 years which has a luncheon club facility and social activities for our elderly gents. We have also been operating a Jalaram Sadavrat sewa food delivery service since 2020 to some 70 elderly and vulnerable elders in and around Croydon. We prepare the food, package it and deliver it free of any cost.
We run a weekly Gujarati Class for Hindu children on Zoom during term time and we operate a monthly Bhajan Club and Hanuman Chalisa recital once a month for all Hindus in the Croydon area.
